In the early 70's, Eddie Solomon created the Professional Hospitality Institute. A restraurateur far ahead of his time, created PHI to train others in the essentials of service.
PHI has a seasoned staff all Food Service Professionals who not only have made their living serving others but also all have had experience in successfully training others. Eddie Solomon, founder of PHI spent his life building McGarvey’s Restaurant in Vermilion into one of the most successful restaurants in the country, by combining excellent service and excellent food, all brought together by an employee training program second to none. Eddie is also the author of the highly regarded food service text book entitled “Service Is An Honorable Profession”.
Shelley Solomon brings a combination of “inside” and “outside” experience. Naturally, as part of the Solomon family, she has shared in building the success of McGarvey’s. She has a solid educational background in foodservice and business administration at Ohio State University and the Columbus Technical Institute. Shelley has opened more than 80 restaurants throughout the United States over her tenure. Her vast knowledge of the Food Service industry and her ability to transfer knowledge to others make sure one of the most sought after professionals available.
Steve Novak just celebrated his 34th year in the restaurant industry. In fact his career began at McGarvey's. He learned firsthand from Eddie Solomon who is considered to be the best front-of-the house man in the business. He brings an extremely diverse knowledge base to our clients. Steve has experienced almost every facet of building and running a successful restaurant. From company and franchise stores, along with opening and managing the 2000 seat Club Lounge at Jacobs Field. He also enjoys working as a private chef and caterer, and recently has been working as a food writer critiquing local restaurants.
